O V8 a 90º tinha 2.993
c , quatro válvulas por cilindro e desenvolvia no começo de 1967 410 HP a
10.000 rpm chegando mais tarde a 470 HP a 10.750 rpm.
Em busca de
investidores para empreitada Chapman encontrou a Ford, que depois de rejeitada
pela Ferrari procurava um grande motor para se firmar no cenário

A contragosto de
Chapman a Ford logo após a vitoriosa estréia abriu sua comercialização para
outras equipes, dando em pouco tempo condições de surgirem varias equipes de
ponta usando o binômio cambio Hewland e motor Ford-Cosworth.
Nessa época cada motor
custava US $ 12.000.
O Ford Cosworth DFV e
suas atualizações tiveram de 1967 a 1983 “apenas” 155 vitórias na Formula Um,
fazendo após sua estréia sete campeões do mundo de 1968/74. E depois sendo
campeão mais cinco vezes.
